Last Tuesday evening, the entire block of Hyde Park Boulevard where the Niagara Falls ChrisFit location resides lost power. The lights shut off completely, and the building was left without music in the dim lighting of the emergency backup spotlights.
Care to guess what else happened?
Not much.
The lights went dim, the stereo shut off, and everyone still did their job. Matt kept benching big weights. Chris kept pedaling the elliptical. Jack made John pull the prowler and do pullups, and Sandy turned the speaker on her phone up for a bit of mood music to Get S#*t Done to.
This seems like a pretty non-eventful story, and it really is. But that's the beauty of it. Everyone in the gym had something close to an excuse to pack it in and stop what they were doing for the night, but nobody did. They all had work to do and goals to reach, and despite a bit of darkness, nothing had changed. They all still wanted to get stronger, leaner, and better - nobody wanted a way out. Nobody took the opportunity to bail out when the moment happened.
ChrisFit members and trainers do not wimp out. They don't take lame excuses to be lazy. They are motivated and focused and do what it takes to get the job done. No power? No problem.
Think about that the next time things get a little tough. Think about what it means to be truly committed to your goals. Think about whether or not a silly thing like a power outage, family dinner, weird work schedule, or any other kind of tough day would sidetrack you if you're really committed. I hope that as a member of this gym family, none of those "excuses" would derail you. We are about hard work, determination, focus, and success.
