Mindful = body full

Part 1:

Recent studies have shown that mindful eaters are more satisfied. We all know it's good to think before we speak, and when we don't it sometimes gets us in trouble. Key word is sometimes, we can get away with not being mindful 100% of the time but more often than not whether it's food or thoughts not thinking before acting adds up and ends poorly. So if you think before you speak why not think before you eat.

Of course we all have our differences. Something that may make someone feel guilty for eating may leave someone else totally satisfied. This is what I want you to look into.

What kind of eater are you?

Think of your favorite treat cake, doughnuts, cookies? Ok got it picked out? (Sorry to put you through that)

What do you immediately think of when you see that item before you to enjoy?

1. I see it, I eat it, lots of it fast?
2. It looks so good but I shouldn't?
3. Are my body and mind hungry for this?

Did you answer number one? If you did I like to call this the autopilot. You more or less hover over food rather than enjoying it. Have you taken the time to taste it and decide if you actually like it or not? Maybe it's too sugary, maybe it's great. If you stop and think about it you are better apt to decide if it is worth it or not. This is being mindful. You will be happier and more satisfied knowing you ate it and liked it rather than scarfing it down and left with no understanding and probably still hungry.

For those of you who pick number two. First of all you are not alone, I wish to assume most of us do this at least females. You might think of this as being mindful actually but in reality you are creating a stress that also can lead to weight gain. I call this one the judge. If you think this but then say screw it I have to have it, you will eat some and still end up feeling guilty. If you say you shouldn't and skip it you are left feeling more deprived. Taking time to decide if it is something you just want or something you are actually hungry is more mindful and will leave you feeling less guilty.

Ultimately in order to avoid over eating, or feeling guilty we need to get to a point where we choose choice three right away. If you already have good for you! You're a mindful eater! If you choose one of the first 2 choices try and become more mindful, by stopping and deciding. Do I even like this treat? If not do something else to avoid eating out of boredom. If you do you can enjoy the treat in moderation, savor the taste and be left satisfied and guilt free!

Sometimes food on the brain is a good thing. Don't get too wrapped up, always find balance!
