So you've been playing the weight loss gain for some time now and you're seeing results. You've been hitting your macros on point, you're getting stronger, you're getting leaner, feeling pretty good about yourself. Then all the sudden you hit the wall. You've stopped losing weight, stopped getting leaner, the strength gains just aren't there anymore. So what do you do?
Now most people will say its time to cut calories and increase cardio to continue losing weight. But sometimes that's not the correct answer. You see your body has what's called a BMR, this stands for basal metabolic rate. Your BMR is the number of calories you need per day to maintain your current weight. But you see when you lift weight and build muscle you increase the speed of your metabolism by carrying more muscle, which in turn changes your metabolic rate. So in actuality, in order to continue weight loss you may be better off upping certain macronutrient numbers.
I know this sounds ludicrous but it's true. Cutting calories left and right and doing hours of cardio can actually cause you to burn off so many calories that your body doesn't even register than it had calories left to burn and in turn will just stay the same. Now I'm not saying that cutting calories is a bad thing nor is cardio. I'm simply saying that there are times when you need to increase calories to lose weight as you create more muscle. But ladies and gentlemen the only way to create more muscle is to continually lift heavier and get stronger day in and day out.
